I'm Susan Larson-Bouwer, M.A.O.D. founder of NV Collaborative.
I work at two levels: with organizations navigating change, strain, and misalignment — and with individual leaders who need a trusted thinking partner for the complexity they're carrying right now.
Both matter. Both deserve attention. In my experience, they go hand in hand; improving one almost always improves the other.

About Me:

The Organizational Work

I bring a Master's in Organizational Development and years of experience working with businesses, nonprofits, boards, and community organizations. My work bridges people and process — grounded in communication principles, team dynamics, and practical methodology that helps organizations improve how they actually function, not just how they feel.

I'm often brought in when leaders need a neutral, steady outside presence. Someone who can work with both people and systems, hold complexity without escalating conflict, and help the organization regain traction.

What clients say I do well:

  • - Listen carefully and without agenda

  • - Name the patterns and tensions everyone is sensing but nobody is saying

  • - Hold hard conversations with dignity and without drama

  • - Translate insight into practical next steps leaders can actually use

My approach is focused, neutral, human, and practical. Engagements are clearly scoped and right-sized — because the goal is better function, not perfect process.

Organizations that do this work typically experience:

  • - Clearer, more direct communication

  • - Reduced tension, speculation, and side conversations

  • - Improved collaboration and trust

  • - Greater clarity around priorities and direction

  • - Leaders who feel less alone carrying complexity

The right conversation, well-designed and well-held, often saves far more time and energy than it requires.

The Coaching Work

I've been coaching leaders for over a decade — and what I know is that most leadership struggles aren't really about strategy or skill. They're about clarity.

Clarity about what you actually think. What you really want. What kind of leader you want to be — not the version you think you're supposed to perform.

I work with leaders who are navigating transitions, making high-stakes decisions, or exploring what authentic leadership looks like for them — including the ones carrying more complexity than any one person should carry alone.

I also do work that is simply close to my heart. I coach neurodivergent leaders and parents of LGBTQIA+ kids — not as a specialty I market, but because these communities deserve support that genuinely understands their experience. If that's you, reach out. We'll figure out the rest together.

I'm not here to hand you a framework and send you on your way. I'm here to think alongside you — with honesty, care, and the occasional well-timed laugh. (I firmly believe a well-timed laugh does more for a stuck leader than another round of bullet points.)

Why I Do This Work

I started NV Collaborative because I believe leaders deserve better support than most of them are getting.

Not someone who tells them what to do. Not someone who reflects everything back as a question. A real thinking partner — with honest perspective, genuine curiosity, and zero interest in making things more complicated than they need to be.

I care deeply about inclusion, authentic leadership, and building workplaces where people can actually thrive. I also believe good work should be energizing. If we work together, I'll bring both rigor and joy to the process. Always.

A Little More About Me

I'm based in Napa Valley, California. I've led nonprofits, designed and delivered training programs across sectors, and worked with leaders at every level — from frontline supervisors to executive teams. I've done extensive research into humor in organizational culture. I serve on the board of Leadership Napa Valley, a regional organization dedicated to developing principled, informed community leaders. I also speak on leadership, authentic communication, and the power of connection and community in organizations — bringing the same directness, warmth, and occasional well-timed laugh to the stage that I bring to every engagement. I show up as a real person, not a polished consultant persona. What you see is what you get.
